Judging a book by its cover

I read that intelligence and good looks go hand-in-hand. Really? And what is intelligence, anyway?

Which of these people are intelligent? Can you really tell by looking?

Never judge a book by a cover. Never judge a soul by a face.

Someone told me that their test for intelligence was whether the person appeared interested and curious about things.

I think this can be a modestly effective test, although some very bright people don't look bright.

Applying the above approach to your pictures, my only conclusions were that Peano looks intelligent and that W D Jones and Jackie Kennedy don't seem particularly bright.

A similar point is that some folk just freeze in front of a camera. So I wouldn't draw any adverse conclusions from Pugsey Hurley's photo.

Anyhow, the above approach doesn't indicate how bright a person is. So I'd conclude that Peano is bright but was he run of the mill or a real genius?

A last point - can we increase our intelligence (or at least our functioning intelligence) by changing the way we look?

I don't think facelifts make people smarter, no.

And do I know you, Felix?
