Emily Dickinson #10
“I hope that time, the assuager of all evils, will heal these also.” – Thomas Jefferson, in a letter of 1811
“They say that ‘time assuages,’ —
Time never did assuage;
An actual suffering strengthens,
As sinews do, with age.
Time is a test of trouble,
But not a remedy.
If such it prove, it prove too
There was no malady. ” – Emily Dickinson

I must disagree with my favourite poet on this point. My sorrow over the death of a friend or family member fades with time, yet that does not mean that I never grieved.
I don't agree with her either.
