Have spent a lovely summer break in Hobart, enjoying the scenery, the food, my family, and worship at St John's:
Highlights of St John's included Rob White's Christmas Eve children's talk, the Fleming sisters singing O Holy Night, and my brother preaching a wonderful sermon on New Year's Eve.
And, of course, I couldn't visit Hobart without dropping in on Salamana Market:

"...worship at St John's" Any thoughts on Tony Payne's take on worship? (Basically that we do an unbiblical disservice to the word, 'worship' and the concept, when we describe by that term, what we do when the church gathers.) The 'worship' word is hugely ingrained parlence.
Sorry Radagast. I re-read my post, ... diving in with a rag to chew without even a 'happy new year' or an acknowledgement of of your entry's mellow vibe.
Happy New year!
Actually, I hadn't even finished the post!
I'll have to think about your question. I think "worship" is a fair word, although there's more to worship than church.
O Holy Night is one a few carols that move me more than any other hymns. It was great seeing you at Salamanca.
Did you buy anything at Salamanca? They sell my most favourite tea there.
Ish -- likewise! (on both counts)
MissM -- lots of things! A Bandicoot book, some Tasmania wine, and a really good bratwurst roll, among other things.
Did you have a nice glass of Cascade beer while you were in Hobart Tony?
I did, actually, although I prefer Tasmanian wine.
Tassie wine is the best! My favourite is Iron Pot Bay's Pinot Grigio. Mmmmm.
I tend to lean slightly towards reds myself, but there are lots and lots of really great Tassie wines from small vineyards.
Touring the wine-growing areas, or visiting the "Taste of Tasmania" in late Dec/early Jan gives a wonderful opportunity to sample them all.
I went to Taste of Tasmania when I was in Tassie last. It was great, so much food and wine to sample and so little time! I loved finding and sampling local produce all over Tasmania. Tasmania is a beautiful state.
Indeed. I love the "Taste" too.
My favourite is Iron Pot Bay's Pinot Grigio. Mmmmm.
Fancy that! I had a glass of that just three days ago.
Regarding the concept of worship, I don't find Tony Payne's line all that convincing. After all, "worship" is an English word, not a Greek one. Perhaps it does not serve a a good translation of the relevant Greek words. But the Bible obviously has a lot to say about the church gathering together - arguably, most of the NT books are addressed to the gathered church. When we are told to pray, for example, that means the gathered church praying...
Happy New Year Radagast. I would love to go to Hobart one day too :)
Indeed you must! ;)
Did you know Iron Pot Bay's Pinot Grigio is now being rationed because of an unseasonably late frost? It is very lucky that any of us are drinking it! Thankfully we were able to have 1/2 doz sent to Sydney which we save for special events.
