Such a Candle

On 16 October 1555, Bishops Nicholas Ridley and Hugh Latimer were burnt at the stake at this spot in Broad Street, in central Oxford:

As a the fire was laid at Ridley's feet, Latimer famously said: "Be of good comfort, Master Ridley, and play the man; we shall this day light such a candle, by God’s grace, in England, as I trust shall never be put out."
